The week of November 29th, 2021 is the start of the Holiday Season. We should be minded that many Abaconians are still struggling daily and grieving loss during this Holiday season. The Holidays should encompass Love and Giving, so let's together remember those less fortunate this Season. Share a table, or lend a helping hand.
This week we held three days in Parliament, the Supplementary Budget and other topics were debated and voted on. In my Contribution speech I highlighted our water and sewage needs, road works, etc. Also, it was conveyed the lack of materials and tools that our government departments need. Many of our smaller challenges would have been fixed if the Abaco government workers had the necessary equipment and materials to get the job done. I thanked our hard working Government workers in Abaco, who often work under difficult circumstances.
A part of the Supplementary Budget is the reduction in VAT from 12% to 10%, starting January. This is a savings in many ways and much appreciated. See my full speech here: https://youtu.be/4m0_6DX5wK0
Speaking with Prime Minister Davis, he has confirmed that the SERZ order will be extended. This is great news as Abaco is still rebuilding and this help is much appreciated. Vehicle replacement was recently added and extended as well. These are some of the supportive changes and help for us Abaconians by the Davis Administration.
Minister of Public Works, Hon. Alfred Sears, was in Moore's Island on Friday with a technical team to move forward on much needed works to be started. He will be throughout Abaco with a technical team this week to assess, continue and start many projects on Abaco.
It is essential to get our Infrastructures rebuilt so we can fully recover. Having the Ministers see our challenges first hand and with their own eyes puts more urgency on Abaco's requests. The economy of Abaco is growing and could be two to three times bigger than pre-Dorian. Helping Abaco is helping the Bahamas!
One of the highlights of my Parliamentary Secretary duties this week was to attend a yacht show at Safe Harbor Rybovich Marina, West Palm Beach, Florida . There are many opportunities for Bahamians in this industry and we are well positioned to be the top spot world wide. Looking forward to helping grow this area of Tourism and highlight the many careers Bahamians can fill.
