My Fellow Abaconians, This week of February 14th started with Valentine's Day, a day to show appreciation for your significant other. Although Valentine's Day is designated for this, it is essential to show love everyday. In the House of Assembly on the 16th was the Debate on Bahamas Agriculture and Marine Science Institute Bill 2022. Farming, Animal Husbandry, and Fishing needs to be grown in The Bahamas to become self reliant. Being able to feed ourselves is a matter of National Security, should we have any delay in shipping this directly affects our ability to find food. Over a billion dollars yearly is sent out of the Bahamas for food, this is money that can be kept at home in Bahamian's pockets. Abaco is well positioned to be a leader in food production and I encourage all Abaconians that have ambition to start/grow farming, animal husbandry, and fishing. Please listen to my contribution in Parliament with the link below: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bBon4CAbWJY&feature=youtu.be I was pleased to have received a Donation from Her Excellency Dai Qingli, the Chinese ambassador on behalf of the People's Republic of China. These N95 Masks are much needed. China is a friend of the Bahamas and has helped in many ways across our nation. This contribution is most appreciated and will be distributed throughout Central and South Abaco. Also, we are working to expand Tourism from China. United States of America gave a substantial contribution to the Elbow Reef Lighthouse for restoration. The Ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Davis, USA Charge D' Affairs, Usha Pitts, Minister Coleby Davis, Minister Halkitis, Minister Darville, Minister Hanna-Martin, Minister LaRoda, North Abaco MP Cornish and Myself. This Lighthouse is the last of it's kind in the World and a vital part of our Abaco history. A tree with no roots will fall. I was honoured to speak with The Prime Minister and Ministers about the Abaco Cays and show him my home island from on top of the lighthouse. Minister Coleby Davis, Ministry of Transport and Housing, with Director of Housing and Permanent Secretary and myself had a meeting with Local Government and Administrators to discuss the Affordable Housing Program. We spoke on house plans available and raised questions in regards. I am most appreciative for the Minister for working with me on our Abaco housing needs with most urgency. Reminder: The Affordable Housing Fair is this week, February 24th to the 26th at the Government Complex. Or register at https://mygateway.gov.bs. The weekend brought many tragedies and highlighted the many challenges and immediate needs of Abaco. A plane Crash in Treasure Cay with two passengers sustained minor injuries and a boating accident in the Guana Cay Area where the passenger had to be flown out with serious injuries. With much sadness my condolences go out to the family of the Sandy Point gentleman that was in a car accident and subsequently passed. We must have proper safety measures in place for our road and waterways. I have requested many of these and will continue to push for proper safety measures throughout Central and South Abaco. Abaco is and will get the help needed. I am consistently working with Government Ministries and Departments; as seen by the many visits of Ministers and technical teams in Abaco in recent. I will continue to push until Abaco is back better and stronger than before.
