My Fellow Abaconians (December 6, 2021)

The week of December 6th, 2021 we completed the cleanup, lights and electrical installation for the BAIC park. This was done just in time to host the Christmas Bazaar; a step towards normality. I want to thank my team for their dedication and hard work. The children were greeted by Santa with gifts and some Holiday Cheer. I am working towards the re-establishment of the Farmers & Crafts market so Abaconians have a place to showcase their locally made products and boost our local economy.

Minister Hon. Alfred Sears, Ministry of Public Works, and his technical team spent three days in Abaco to move forward with much needed projects and expedite those already started. First we met with the Department of Public Work's Staff; they are some of the best and incredibly hardworking Abaconians. These individuals are working multiple positions with severe lack of help since Dorian. Limited tools, vehicles, materials, etc make the scope of works nearly impossible, yet they come to work and do their best day after day for Abaco. I am thankful and hope they are recognized for their dedication to our home.

Almost every area of Abaco was visited and works looked at by Minister Sears and the technical team for the department. Docks and Roads are of great priority, transport on land & sea are critical to rebuilding and daily life. We are an island nation and boating is our way of life, so docks will be completed in a short time.

Buildings that are visibly damaged will be identified and an effort made to remove them. Schools were also assessed for repairs, as it is agreed our children need to be in school. We will be moving to a hybrid model in January and potentially a Full face to face the beginning of 2022. The government buildings in Hope Town & Guana Cay, Public Docks in Hope Town & Man O War, and many others were identified.

I am putting together a full list of needed projects for Public Works. We will prioritize and get them done as soon as possible. Also, BPL station was visited and we discussed their challenges. Abaco has Minister Sears's support and we will get the help we need.

To properly clarify, bringing Ministers to Abaco is essential because they bring the technical teams that execute the works needed and see first hand our situation and challenges we face.

Hon. Clay Sweeting, Minister of Family Island Affairs, announced the elections for Local Government will be January 27th, 2022. Nominations Day and final day for verification on the register is January 15th, 2022. It is important to be a voice for your community and help guide change and improvements in your communities. Stand up and put yourself forward for the benefit of our future generations. Let's Rise Abaco together!
