This week of October 25th was the first session of House of Assembly. The Prime Minister gave his communication and status on Our Country. This was a confirmation of our financial position and some of the immediate relief for Bahamians. (I will be speaking this coming Wednesday.)
The Airport Authority and I had a meeting on the Leonard Thompson International Airport in Marsh Harbour. There were many issues brought to their attention, some needing immediate action and others that will have to be planned and discussed further. I was pleased with the response and see that timely communication of such issues is key. Follow-up meetings will be had until this Vital component of our Abaco economy is fully operational and inviting.
A Brief discussion with the Charge D' Affairs for the US Embassy was encouraging. The discussion was on many topics, however the highlight was the interest in helping Abaco. The challenges at the Marsh Harbour Port was brought to attention and we are setting up further discussion on how they may be able to assist. Other points of interest will be brought to light soon.
Speaking with a representative from 'One Bahamas Foundation', it was made clear that they are interested in assisting in a few different areas. I will be drawing out a few project plans in areas of Small Business Development, House Completion, and Educational Projects. Education is the key to OUR future in Abaco.
Further work on Education and Abaco Schools re-opening and full face face is on going. The Ministry of Health , accompanied by Ministry of Education, will be coming to Abaco and making their assessments very soon. I'm hopeful this will take place within a couple weeks time.
Traveling with DPM Cooper to the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, (the biggest boat show in the world); I was very excited to see the activity and interest in boating in The Bahamas. Abaco is one of the best boating destinations in the world and is what drives our economy. The patrons of the show are enthusiastic about coming to Abaco; from new visitors and those who haven't been back since Dorian. I am working on the development of an evolution of boating in The Bahamas; this will make it an easier and more time sensitive approach to Boating in Abaco. The time savings and ease of visiting will relate to more commerce and opportunities for Abaco Businesses.
Other challenges are consistently being worked on. Please feel free to email me at john@johnpinderabaco.com
